Stamp or Broom Finish Concrete, done properly
A broom finish is the workhorse: a light brushed texture across the surface that gives you grip when it is wet and does not draw attention to itself. It suits walkways, steps and large patios, and it pairs well with a brick or paver border that gives the slab a defined edge.
Stamped concrete is poured the same way and then textured and colored while it is still green, so the finished slab carries a pattern — stone, slate, plank or ashlar. It gives you a patterned surface in one continuous pour, which is why it works well on large areas and around pools.
Either way, the slab is only as good as the prep. We compact the sub-base, set forms to a real fall so water leaves the house, place reinforcement, and cut or tool control joints at sensible spacing so the concrete cracks where we put the joint instead of somewhere random.
Broom finish
Brushed texture for traction on walks, steps and patios. Quiet, practical and easy to keep clean.
Stamped and colored
Pattern and color worked into the slab while it is green — stone, slate or plank textures across one continuous pour.
Pitched to drain
Forms set to a real fall away from the house, and a trench drain cast in where the grade will not do the job on its own.
Joints in the right places
Control joints cut or tooled at sensible spacing so the slab cracks along a line we chose, not across the middle of the patio.

Is stamped concrete slippery?
A stamped surface can be slicker than a broom finish when wet, because the texture is a pattern rather than a brushed grip. A non-slip additive in the sealer handles most of it. Around a pool or on a set of steps, we will usually recommend a broom finish or a paver instead — that is a place where traction beats pattern.
Will the concrete crack?
Concrete moves, and control joints are how the trade deals with it: joints are cut or tooled so the slab relieves stress along a line we chose. That is a normal, expected part of a concrete slab and not a defect. What we can control is base prep, reinforcement and joint spacing, and that is where the care goes.
How long before I can walk or park on it?
Foot traffic comes well before vehicle traffic, and both depend on the mix, the weather and the temperature that week. We will give you the specific timeline for your pour before we leave the site — and it is worth waiting out, because early loading is one of the few things that genuinely damages a new slab.
Does concrete need sealing?
Stamped and colored concrete should be sealed to protect the color and keep the pattern crisp, and it needs re-sealing periodically. A plain broom finish does not require sealing, though sealing helps it resist staining. We will tell you what your surface needs and roughly how often.
